Banana Cutlets
Crunchy and mushy at the same time, this banana cutlets recipe makes a simple, inexpensive and delicious snack. This Michelin dessert recipe uses bananas, walnuts, butter, milk, flour, salt, and lemon juice. The bananas are mashed and mixed with the chopped walnuts and cooked in butter together with the milk, flour, salt and lemon juice. When the ingredients are well combined, the mixture is cooled and then formed into cutlets or small patties and then deep-fried in hot oil until golden brown.
Banana cutlets are a popular Indian dish and snack. The traditional Indian version, however, includes spices like garlic, ginger, turmeric, chili, mint leaves, and garama masala. This recipe is designed for the Western palate and does not include any spices. You can add these spices, however, if you want a hotter dish. In the Indian version, raw bananas are usually used instead of ripe ones so it is not sweet at all and serves as an appetizer or savory snack.
This banana cutlets recipe can be served for breakfast like pancakes or French toast and can be dressed with maple syrup or chocolate or caramel sauce. This also makes a delicious snack and dessert dish and can be topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Use canola or vegetable oil when frying banana cutlets, or any oil that has no distinguishable flavor so as not to affect the taste of the final dish. Peanut oil can also be used and will complement the taste of the walnuts.
Since the ingredients are already cooked prior to frying, you don’t need to fry them in hot oil for too long—just enough to give them a nice golden brown color. Keep a watchful eye as the cutlets fry since they change color quite quickly and can easily turn black and burn.
