    Sky Lanterns Festival

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     yaikes told me, 'After two Romanian men created an event on facebook saying that they want to organize a sky lanterns festival, more than 7,000 people clicked "going." However, with just 6 hours before the starting of the event the mayor decided to cancel it. People were more than revolted when they heard the news but they still decided to gather in the park. When I arrived at the meeting place, a lot of sky lanterns had already been released even though there were police cars trying to convince people to leave. Firemen, as well as the mayor were also present. The event lasted for about 2 or 3 hours.'

    On March 3, 2013 hundreds of people had gathered in a park in Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. Even though the event had been officially canceled just 6h before the starting of the festival, it didn’t stop people from gathering in the park, and in just few minutes the sky was covered by dozens of blue, green, red and yellow lanterns.

     

    The event was organized with the purpose of celebrating the beginning of spring but it also managed to bring a smile upon the faces of those present at the festival. And so, couples, families and children, made a wish as they released the sky lanterns.
