    The Smiling Buddha

    The Shey Palace in Leh Ladakh is the Old palace of the ruler of Ladakh region. Inside the Palace is a buddhist monastery having this statue of the Buddha in a smiling mood. The monastery gets a lot of visitors who offer currency notes of various countries and denominations. Looking at the statue from the front lends an illusion as if the Buddha, the ultimate symbol of renunciation , is subtly smiling at the offerings of the world.
