Hugo Chavez was a man of principles and a straight-forward deep conviction that ordinary people deserve a say in a true democracy. The oligarchy that governed Venezuela for too long was corrupt to the core and the enormous oil reserves long served the limited interests of a few. Chavez, even as he may have mismanaged part of that wealth and was ill-advised with some of his friends (Ahmadinejad!!!), was an inspirational figure throughout latinamerica, with powerful retorical skills and incredible carisma. A majority of Venezuelans benefitted from his social investment programs and his redirecting the great wealth of Venezuela to the well-being of the vast majority of its population. For that he deserves to be remembered as a great, inspirational leader. we live in world in which most "leaders" are eager to have power so that they delve into the deep pockets of power for their own private benefit, corrupting the demoscratic process and the instiutions of state. Chaez was not one of these. God bless Him.
