Nantucket's Beach Street Lives Up to It's Name

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Jordanaack told me, 'When accumulated atop the other four storms that have caused widespread flooding, power outages, property damage and much more for Nantucket. This storm has brought massive flooding in the low lying areas as seen from my other report of the Easy Street area. High tide comes again tonight at 8:37 and then at 9 tomorrow morning and will prove to be a problem as there is already flooding as there is nowhere for the water to go. Sustained winds are still at 30 mph with guests up to 55mph. There is massive erosion on the beach front an Eastern Parts of the island including Sankedy Head and the Western including Madaket. I hope to explore these parts of the island further tomorrow when the winds are promised to dissipate. Those in low lying areas were warned to move to higher ground and evacuate, which is a drill residents have become familiar with following a winter full of weekend storms. Cutting off the island through the suspension of boat and plane service due to unseasonable conditions Nantucket has not ever seen. Today is was a wintery freezing mix with a wind that was raw and it was hard to be outside for a sustained period of time. Especially with your boots in 2 feet plus of seawater that is flooding the streets.'

Check out the damage and wrath Saturn caused to one of Nantucket's Hot spot's Lola 41.  The low laying areas of the island took a hard hit when high tide came on shore at 9 amthis morning and the water has nowhere to go and has not subsided. Currently many parts of Water, Easy, Broad, Easton, Beach, Washington and Francis Street have been evacuated due to rising flood waters. Currently the winds and precipitation are on a steady increase. At 2pm it is 32 degrees with sustained winds out of the North east at 45 mph with gusts over 63 mph.  We are experiencing a winery mix of rain, snow, and sleet as we brace for the evening.  There is currently no boat or plane service to or from the island. Nantucket remains under a costal flood and high wind warning till 6:45 p.m. tonight March 8th, 2013
