The Enemy Within
All too many Americans are blindfolded, mislead. They refuse to face the simple truth that our beautiful country is under attack. No, it is not a hot war. It is, for all the words I had considered, organized crime.
The United States of America is being attacked from within. A well organized, concerted effort is under way to dismantle this great country. The activity is unfolding in plain view. It reminds me of illnesses where one’s own immune system attacks the body. Our own system is being (mis)used by a click to destroy us.
Under the guise of long outdated values, nostalgic drumbeats and the exploitation of patriotic feelings they have all too many well-meaning Americans fooled.
States challenge the federal government’s power, even legitimacy. Too many states are trying to suppress the vote, when they should encourage people to exercise this important right. Too many states make it harder for women to exercise their right to choose. Gun control is resisted with tooth and nail by NRA, in spite of the fact that more and more of us shoot each other and we have all too many mass murderers.
Just because it is not yet clear what exactly the enemy’s goals are, we already know that nothing good can come of this, only misery. We know who some of the enemy’s exponents are, such as the Koch brothers, Scott Walker and the like, but some, the really powerful ones stay hidden from us. For all we know, they may be foreigners who are ready to subdue this powerful country. Not knowing should not excuse our slow response, or outright passivity.
The government itself needs to identify and prosecute subversive activity, which there is plenty of. When will that happen? How come our democracy is being systematically sabotaged? How can we allow some of the media to infect the minds of their audiences. (Yeah, free speech can be exercised on the street corner, they have the right, but they claim, they are legitimate news organizations.)
I would symbolically suggest a call to arms. A doubling of efforts, a powerful resistance to brainwashing, to dogma, to anti-woman, anti-worker activity. Let those of us who can see this danger lead the way into defending the United States, the good Americans who inhabit it and the future of our children.
