    brutality in bangladesh

The police force of Bangladesh(capital-Dhaka), a South Asian country with 160 million population, killed more than 50 people on the 28th February, 2013 and more than 100 people from the 28th February, 2013 to 5th March, 2013 by firing/shooting. Most of them were unarmed or maximum carried bricks, bamboo or wood pieces. The supporters of the Govt. argued that the police took the action to save the)of police) lives. It is not easy to accept because no policeman was killed by fire/shooting. Some of the police members were killed but by beaten with bamboo or wood pieces. The mass-killing was termed as genocide by the leader of the opposition party Begum Khaleda Zia. The police grossly violated the code of conduct and the rules formulated in the International conventions. The victims were the protester of a verdict of a controversial tribunal established by the Govt. to try Leaders of the Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami. The Jamaat-e-Islami was deprived from their democratic rights to hold meeting and hold processions since 2010. Recently a leader Delwar Hussain Saydee was sentenced to death by the tribunal. A huge number of citizen could not accept the verdict. People from International corner were worried to have a justice from the tribunal. They pointed out the weaknesses of the tribunal and suggested the Govt. to modify it. But the Govt. did not honor the appeal. Most of the print and electronic media of Bangladesh favored the Govt./police to cover the news. So mass people home and abroad were likely to misguided by the media coverage. Other opposition parties are also deprived from their democratic rights. We cordially urge the International community to learn the fact and raise voices against the inhuman brutality described here and take humanitarian role in this respect. With best wishes.. .a Bangladeshi citizen.
