This iReport is part of an assignment:
Delhi Gang Rape Accused Commits Suicide : Gross Negligence? or Blissful Ignorance?
If you ask me, I do find that there are a lot of pieces missing from the puzzle. All of the accused were supposedly kept under close watch - if so how could this happen? There were also other inmates and a guard that was posted for security. Despite this, how could an incident like this happen? The autopsy report will reveal the truth so we will have to wait and see.
By and large, a majority of Indians seem to show no sympathy for this death. All the twitter trends that I have reading show that internet users, a huge majority in India, seem to think this is a case of justice served. Personally, I think this also raises serious questions about jail suicides in India - last year, the number of prisoners who have tried committing suicide in prison have risen dramatically (http://www.firstpost.com/india/ram-singhs-death-why-stopping-jail-suicides-is-not-easy-654840.html) . Yet, the government seems to be silent on the issue. And I think this highlights the apathy of the government towards prison safety and conditions.
