Islamabad, March 10 (PR): Aafia Movement leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqiui has said that the innocent daughter of the nation, Dr Aafia, has completed a decade of imprisonment with bravery and valor; however, the Pakistani rulers still have to summon courage to write a letter to the US president for her release.
Addressing a big “Azadi Rally” at D-Chowk outside the Parliament House here Sunday, she said she shares the grief of the Christian community and would personally visit Badami Bagh Lahore to condole with them. She said the Ulema and religious scholars should come forward for the security of minorities, and similarly the Pope should also raise voice against the atrocities against Muslim Ummah and for the release of Dr Aafia. She said Muslims are in minority in Europe and the Pope should raise voice for their rights and against widespread discrimination they face in the Western countries.
She said this ‘Azadi March’ demands from the government to take steps for the immediate repatriation of Dr Aafia and also give justice to the heirs of Kamran Faisal, Jehanzeb and the affectees of Badami Bagh.
She asked how the rulers who cannot repatriate Aafia can solve the problems of minorities. It is a golden chance for the sitting rulers to do some concrete thing for the release of Aafia before ending their tenure; otherwise, how they could face the Pakistani masses when they go to their doors during coming electioneering.
On the occasion, Defence of Human Rights Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua, Musawir Khan Furqan and other leaders also spoke. Aafia Azadi camp director Abdul Hakim Quaid, Dr Tariq Saleem, Muhammad Wajid, Javed, Gul Shareef and Azizur Rehman were also present. A large number of civil society members, civil rights activists, leaders of social and political parties and different communities were present before the Parliament House. Raising flags, banners and portraits of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, they chanted slogan for her early release.
Dr Fowzia Siddiqui said it is the American mentality to punish whole Muslim Ummah for the crime of one individual. She said punishing the Christian community in Lahore for the crime of a single individual is the continuation of this American brand mentality. She said we must shun this negative thinking, as the white portion of the Pakistani flag is the symbol of protection and rights of the religious minorities. She said the Christians have always raised voice for the plight of Dr Aafia and we would also never leave them alone on this testing time. She said the wounds of the Christian community would be dressed.
She said to save the country from the tragedies like Quetta carnage, Abbas Town Karachi, Peshawar mosque attack and Badami Bagh Lahore incident it is necessary that our politicians should be united to steer the country clear from these crises instead of pointing scores on petty political differences. She said it is high time the vital national interests should be preferred to all other considerations. She said no one is more unfortunate than the nations whose daughters are sold and the sons whisked away and their rulers keep a mum on this injustice. She said Aafia Siddiqui was handed 86-year imprisonment just because she was a Muslim. She is put in a solitary confinement, away from sunshine and contact to her family. They snatched her copy of Holy Quran, headscarf, prayer rug and other basic rights just because she is a Muslim woman.
