    How we make it work

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     PR veteran Brandee Barker lives in Menlo Park, California, and was part of the Lean In Foundation launch team. This family photo was shot in May 2012 by photographer Jerry Yoon.
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

We wake up about an hour before our two year old and both sit in bed thumb typing out emails on our iPhones. Once Logan screams "mooooooooom" (sometimes "dad") from his crib, one of us leaps up, changes a diaper and makes some coffee. The day begins at a full sprint and we each work long before 9 am and well after 9 pm.

I've never done a load of my husband's laundry since I met him. He often does it for our family. He's a more creative cook, but I can turn out a good recipe. He does the bills and I manage the calendar. We're 50-50, 60-40, 40-60 on chores depending on the week.

He's the active one and I'm the pensive one, which gets us to the park and playing puzzles equally. We trade off pick ups at pre-school, meals, baths and everything else in between. And our extended family is of great help along the way.

I'm not sure we define roles. We just get it all done somehow. We fight sometimes, but our goals are aligned in wanting to both work and make it work together.

We work hard and play hard together as a family. We respect our personal and professional goals in life and try hard to communicate our needs. We mess up, but we forgive, shift and move forward.
