Celebrating a Landslide Electoral Victory for PL

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Freelance journalist image2011 told me, 'The mood is quite serene and many are quite satisfied and happy with the result and the ongoing celebrations. On the streets, many are going on with their normal lives while others watch the celebrations and carcades going by. People are talking and commenting on the results and some just enjoying the day and good weather.'
    - hhanks, CNN iReport producer

Massive celebrations and carcades took place in the streets of Malta to celebrate a Landslide Victory by PL over the Nationalist Party which had been in power for the past 25 years. Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi had to call a General Election in November 2012 after loosing a one seat Parliamentary Majority in a vote on Budget. Malta went to the Polls on Saturday 9th March. No incidents were reported during voting in all localities. The Ballot reconciliation was over in a very short time and sorting of the votes commenced in the early hours of Sunday 10 March. First indications were a comfortable win for the Labor Movement PL under the leadership of Dr. Joseph Muscat. Later in the morning there was confirmation that PL had won the elections with a Landslide victory of 55% of valid votes cast. What this young and dynamic Dr. Muscat achieved is certainly historical since no other Political Party has ever enjoyed such a political advantage. This result will yield a 9 seat Parliamentary Majority.
