    No hubo acuerdo en la primera votación entre los cardenales. La plaza de San Pedro se llenó en pocos minutos de miles de fieles para ver el humo que salía de la chimenea situada sobre el tejado de la Capilla Sixtina., y en espera de la fumata blanca.
