K9 Amber Alert! The search still continues for Tanner in the high Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Tanner, a white rare breed Coton de Tulear was lost near a rest area in Edwards, Colorado in Eagle County on March 11. Tanner is a 12 pound intact male dog. He is wearing a harness and is micro chipped. He escaped from the car near a rest area just north of Interstate 70. Owner and friends are searching the area now where he was last seen in the Cordillera Valley Community.

Tanner is a rare breed Coton de Tulear, and his devoted owner, Kris Forke of Edelweiss Cotons, is a Code of Ethics Breeder as well as a breeder of champion Cotons and one of the most respected experts of the Coton de Tulear. Cotons are so rare that they connect people from all walks of life who otherwise would never meet. For instance, I adopted two Cotons, Romeo & Cupid, from Kris last year and the father of my Cotons is Rocky. And all of these dogs are either the son or grandson of one famous Coton named, Pirate Captain Tew, owner, Aisha Cameron of Cedarwood Cotons.

Pirate is a well-known Champion, he was bred, raised, and shown by Sara-France St. Pierre of La Cotonnerie. She raised him and showed him and took him on to his championships in the US and Canada. Pirate is well-known as the father of many fine puppies all over Canada and the US. Aisha Cameron of Cedarwood Cotons was honored in 2009 to have Pirate come live with her in Vermont.

Pirate Captain Tew is the father of Jane Fonda's Coton, Tulea. So you can see how Cotons bring people together and so it is indeed a small world. You may have seen the CNN interview last July where Jane shared her lovely Tulea with CNN and now you can understand how when one Coton goes missing the whole Coton Community rallies together to help find the lost child. The American Coton Club and its members are indeed using all of their resources help Kris and Tanner reunite.

Tanner is still lost however his owner Kris Forke knows he is still alive by numerous accounts of neighbors. Neighbors helped pin Tanner's location down to Edwards, CO at the Cordillera Valley Golf Club community. He has been seen going in between the homes surrounding the golf course. He has been spotted numerous times but he is frightened and runs away and has eluded even Kris and a professional tracker. The Cordillera community is supporting Kris as well but the weather in the mountains is harsh and with snow on the ground it is even more difficult to spot a white dog and he is in more peril as each day passes. A storm is due to come in this evening.

It is my hope that CNN will be able to take an active role on Tanner and Kris’s story and help them reunite by getting involved in this search and bringing in professional trackers and other resources to help her recover this beloved little fellow. We have watched how the country unites in the search for a loved one even a furry loved one. It is stories like this that the capture our attention because it shows that there is caring concern and it brings out the best in all of us.

Kris makes the trek every day from her home in Fruita, CO to Edwards, CO to search for Tanner. It is a difficult 3 hour mountainous drive each way and she has been doing this for every day. She is using all her resources and refuses to quit knowing he is alive and still out there in the Cordillera Valley Golf Community. If you have special tracking skills that would assist her please join the search team and help Kris and Tanner reunite.

You can't even begin to imagine how your heart gets stolen by one of these magical little dogs. They are very beautiful and they have personalities that are silly and mischievous, fiercely devoted companions, and they are the Royal Dog of Madagascar, beloved companions of royalty, Hollywood stars, and people like you and me. My hope is to help Kris and Tanner reunite. Anyone with special skills in tracking please reach out to Kris Forke.
