Dog meat traders arrested in Northern Thailand
Thai Border Patrol Police acting on information supplied by Soi Dog’s Foundation undercover investigators arrested more dog meat smugglers.
They were intercepted yesterday in the far NE province of Bung Khong Kan, Thailand with approximately 250 dogs recovered.
This arrest came just two days after another shipment with 3 trucks was intercepted, in Bueng Kan province just north of Sakhon Nakhon. Two of the trucks contained empty cages and the third 117 caged dogs.
The trucks were headed for crossing points on the Mekong river for onward transport of the dogs to Vietnam. 5 men and 1 woman were arrested.
All dogs have been taken to the Nakhon Phanom quarantine shelter south of the area where the arrest occurred and the Soi Dog Foundation is assisting the Livestock Dept. with food, medical supplies and doctors.
In the last week around 700 dogs have been recovered adding to the thousands already requiring food and treatment at the center.
The illegal trade is managed by a criminal organization based in Vietnam generating several million dollars a year. The Soi Dog Foundation is working to help stop the trade and its barbarics slaughtering methods that include skinning and boiling the dogs alive.
