Tuesday, March 19th, 2013, a friend of mine had his two dogs at a friend's house on Burr street here in Gary, Indiana around 33rd just north of the railroad tracks. As always, he let the dogs roam freely in the area because it is a safe distance from Burr street. As a train approached, he heard the whistle blow. He thought nothing of the blowing whistle. After the train passed, he noticed one of his dogs sitting on the tracks. He said he immediately knew something was wrong. When he reached our buddy, "Lady" he realized she had been severely injured after being hit by the train. He picked her up and took her home not wanting to face the inevitable. Lady's back was broken. He took her to the Vet where Lady was put down. I didn't find out until the following Thursday when I stopped by to say hello to my buddies. As I walked up to the fence, I am normally greeted by both of them. I knew something was wrong when our buddy "Liquor" was the only one who greeted me. Today, I will join my friend Scott in that area for a memorial service and burial. Pray for us. Lady is on the left.
