Air Traffic Control Tower Closure Announced
Announced a few hours ago, the Fullerton Air Traffic Control Tower will be one of the 149 towers closed throughout the country on April 7th, just two weeks from today.
Fullerton Municipal Airport houses the Orange County Sheriff helicopter pad. In 2012 there were 65,000 flights in and out of this airport, mostly small planes and small jets.
This closure is part of the sequester budget cuts and will affect 149 airports, 11 of them are here in California.
This airport will not be closing though. There will be a "one in, one out" procedure and the San Diego based controller, which is over 100 miles away, will be in charge of making sure planes are not close to each other.
I live 3 miles from this airport, the incoming planes fly right over my house all day long. Since I've lived here planes have crashed into a house about 3 blocks from me and also have crashed into several apartment buildings, and that's WITH the tower being open.
God help us all...!!!
