After 90 days of hunger strike (a dry hunger strike since March 21), Kasra Nouri and Saleh Moradi have called off their hunger strike!

The two Iranian dervishes have ended their hunger strike after 90 days because their demands were met.

Seven detained lawyers who had been acting for the dervishes have finally been removed from solitary confinement and brought to the general ward of Evin Prison, where they met with their families on Satruday April 13.

Majzooban-e Noor, the Gonabadi dervishes’ website, reported on the “happy conclusi…on” of the extended hunger strike by Saleh Moradi and Kasra Nouri, which had caused all their supporters grave concern.

The seven lawyers had spent three months in solitary confinement.

Alireza Roshan and Mostafa Abdi, two of the imprisoned dervishes in ward 350 of Evin prison, have started their own hunger strike as of March 21st of 2013.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), quoted from Majzooban Noor, Alireza Roshan and Mostafa Abdi, who are Dervish rights activists and Majzooban Noor website staff, began their hunger strike on March 21st in protest against the continued confinement of Dervish lawyers in horrible conditions in the security wards of Evin prison, where they have been treated harshly and insulted. The hunger strikes have demanded that the lawyers be immediately transferred back to ward 350 and that they receive medical treatment.

Alireza and Mostafa informed their families today during a scheduled visit that: “We worry about the condition of imprisoned Dervish lawyers and the critical situation of two other imprisoned Dervishes in Adel Abad prison, in the city of Shiraz, who are on hunger strike as well-- in solidarity with them we started our own hunger strike. Also we ask the other two Dervishes of Adel Abad prison to end their hunger strike.”

Kasra Nouri and Saleh Moradi are the two imprisoned Dervishes in Adel Abad prison who started hunger strike about 70 days ago in protest to imprisoned Dervish lawyers being held in terrible conditions in the solitary confinement cells of ward 209; since six days ago they switched to a dry hunger strike and their families described their condition as “horrible and close to death”.

Seven imprisoned Dervish lawyers and administrators of Majzooban website were transferred to solitary confinement cells in Ward 209 71 days ago. This is because of their objections to the court's dossier process and their complaints against the notorious Judge Salavati.

These Dervish lawyers have endured interrogation sessions, beatings, insults and other torture during the interrogation sessions. The families of imprisoned Dervishes lawyers and administrators of Majzooban website, along with some other Gonabadi dervishes, asked Saleh Moradi and Kasra Nouri in a letter to end their hunger strike.

They expressed in this letter their appreciation for the solidarity of Saleh Moradi and Kasra Nouri, but also expressed their worries about their health conditions and asked them to end their hunger strike urgently.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), quoted from Majzooban Noor, doctors say this can cause irreparable damages to their health.

It should be noted that, the families of two Dervishes, Saleh Moradi and Kasra Nouri, in a contact with Majzooban Noor website expressed grave concern for their deteriorating health. They are suffering with vision loss, kidney failure, bowel adhesion in addition to weakness, weight loss and dizziness and the appearance of these symptoms are warning signs of their dire health condition and indicate that their lives are in danger! his family said.

It is reminded that, on 15th of Bahman 1391(Feb 3, 2013) despite the poor physical conditions of two dervishes, Kasra Nouri and Saleh Moradi, who are on hunger strike , the security forces and prison authorities forced them to sign a letter stating that they have good physical health and they do not need any medical treatment and health care!

These two Gonabadi dervishes who are behind bars for more than 18 months in Shiraz’s Adel Abad prison , lunched the hunger strike to protest illegal transfer of seven Gonabadi dervishes’s lawyers and Majzooban Noor website managers to solitary confinement of Evin prison on 27th of Dey 1391 ( Jan 15, 2013).They required prison officials to transfer back seven Gonabadi dervishes’s lawyers to the general ward of Evin Prison and called attention to their poor health status but unfortunately their request has not been answered yet and the detained lawyers of the Gonabadi dervishes are being held in solitary confinement of Ward 209 at about 51 days.

Saleh Moradi and Kasra Nouri are currently in prison, on charges of “Propaganda against the regime”, “Acting against national security”, “Deviant group (Majzooban Noor) membership” and “Interviews with foreign media, Radio Farda”, but they have not yet received a definitive sentence till now. It seems that, after 18 months, their case is under investigation in Shiraz’s Revolutionary Court.

We note in this regard that although they have been in detention more than the serving a period of time which would equate to their sentence, therefore now their detention is absolutely unlawful.
