U.S. Border Patrol Agent shot/gunman dead
A United States Border Patrol Agent was shot in the early morning hours of March 21, 2013, near Hebbronville, Texas which is located approximately 50 miles south east of Laredo, Texas. The incident initiated as agents patrolling Farm to Market Road 649 south of Hebbronville, Texas encountered a vehicle parked on the side of the road. The agents approached the driver of the vehicle and asked him if he required any assistance as the agents observed that the subject had struck a deer. The subject then became aggressive towards the agents, raising the agents suspicion. The agents subsequently ran a vehicle registration/stolen vehicle check, revealing that the vehicle was reported stolen. The agents then attempted to take the subject into custody, a struggle ensued and the subject pulled out a gun and began shooting at the agents. One agent was struck in the hip, the other agent returned fire and disabled the subject. The agent was transported to the hospital and later released after treatment. The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. It was later revealed that the subject was wanted for an aggravated assault and car jacking in Waco, Texas.
