What the late 1960s really looked like

    First Communion Sisters

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     RomaniaScene and her sister took a professional photo in their dresses before their First Holy Communion. She and her sister were ages 9 and 8, respectively. She says her mother always had great style, and many women in the 1960s copied Jackie Kennedy's look. "Really, my favorite look was the short, cropped jackets with A-line knee-length skirts and a pillbox hat with gloves for church."

This is a photo of my sister, Cheryl, (on the left) and myself, (on the right) together at the kneeling bench on our First Holy Communion in 1967 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Providence, Rhode Island. My mom thought we looked a lot alike then and dressed us the same.  We are 11 months apart in age.  I remember how starchy the dress was and how much we looked forward to that day. I still have my rosary and misselette along with that fashionable hair bow (but not those bangs!)  which at the time I didn't like, but it looks pretty nice here in our retro photo, doesn't it? She is a good sister and sent me the photo from home today to my email here in China so I could post it for this assignment.
