CNN PRODUCER NOTE     repubocrat says the faces on her boys, then 17 and 14, were so filled with dread and contempt that 'I figured the best shot would be from the shoulders down with the beautiful Badlands in the background.' This picture was taken in 2005 and is framed in her home.

Being a military family we moved a lot, and often it was from one coast of the US to the other. By the time our kids were teenagers they'd had enough of it and the scenic views and skylines out the car window...to them....was pretty much the same in one state as it was in another. This fact just killed us as parents because we appreciated the different terrain that each state offered....how poetic right? Nope. Not when you're traveling with teens! There we were driving through the Badlands NP in South Dakota. Absolutely beautiful. If you've never been through, you must go. It's a wonder that this exists on this planet. So there we were with the kids on a family trip driving through this National Park, and they could not have cared less!! One kid woke up, looked out the window and went back to sleep, and the other went back to playing his Gameboy. So we stopped the car, made them get out, and I took this pic of them. I can assure you that he fact that their heads are cut off was no accident.
