    For the love of Evan

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     ErinShwatty's brother died by suicide in February 2010. She started a blog, 4 The Love of Evan, two years ago to bring meaning to his life and educate others about the warning signs of suicide. 'Contrary to popular belief, suicide is rarely an impulsive act caused by one event, like losing a job or breaking up with a girlfriend. Suicide is the result of many complex factors that create a "perfect storm."'

    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

For the love of my brother, Evan, who died by suicide three years ago, I am devoted to bring meaning to his life through my actions today. I am here to say that people are suffering, and they are being left behind.
Suicide claims a million victims every year, but concealed by stigma and taboo, little attention is given to this public health epidemic. It is my goal to understand and prevent suicide by exploring the important issues, and by profiling my survivorship experience through writing. Suicide prevention has influenced everything I do today in my brother’s memory.
It has been a rough journey, to say the least, but my parents and I have survived – living each day in honor of Evan. If you have lost someone in your life to suicide, or want to learn more about this unique epidemic, please visit my blog www.4evan.org; comment, ask questions or just listen.
