Cherry Blossoms reach peak bloom in Washington DC

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     This year, a cold spring caused the cherry blossoms to peak late, disappointing many who arrived earlier for the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which started on March 20.

But for pipedog the wait was worth it! 'Seeing the Cherry Blossoms at peak bloom around the Tidal Basin is heavenly. Photos simply don't do them justice,' he said.
    - jne2013, CNN iReport producer

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a spring celebration in Washington, D.C., commemorating the March 27, 1912, gift of 3,000 Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington.

This year, peak bloom was from April 8-11. During this time I setoff on an early morning and late evening shoot. Although it was difficult waking up at 3:30am and getting home after midnight, it was well worth it.
