Need Vacation Ideas? Try Crewed Yacht Charters: Be Your Own Buffett (Jimmy or Warren)
Looking for more information about booking a yacht charter? One of the largest and most raved-about brands worldwide in the yacht charter business is InTheWild (InTheWild.org), offering highly curated yacht brokerage services that ensure stringent levels of service are maintained.
Escape the normal cruise experience, go where you’d like, do what you feel like doing -- far away from the big ships.
Where can you go?
The Mediterranean, the British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Mexico, the Caribbean.
No longer restricted to oil magnates and shipping tycoons, crewed yacht charters are now affordable and within reach to the rest of us. Sure, some charters can still run up a tab that rivals the cost of renting thing Queen Mary 2, but the vast majority now are equivalent to what you will pay for taking a traditional cruise. Bonus: Someone else worries about the technicalities of the ship, while you worry about enjoying yourself.
How Does It Work?
Upon booking, you’re provided with a captain, a chef, an open standard bar. While charters vary, you’re traditionally provided with three meals per day and encouraged to make special accommodation requests. (think: water toys, specific meals, etc.) Yachts vary in size with the smallest being 37 feet (room for 3 guests) to the 65 footers (room for 6) being 65 feet with guest occupancy of 6. However, there are much bigger ones that can be occupied by as many as 120 people. The smaller ones are much cheaper to rent out too than the bigger ones.
What are the details?
In the BVIs, you can charter a 45-foot boat with room for four and a crew (cook and captain) for one week for $1,5000 to $3,000 per person, which includes all your meals and drinks. That’s about what you’d expect to pay ($215 to $430 a night) for an ocean-view room on a traditional cruise ship. Except in this case, the ship is yours to command.
It’s also worth noting when you charter your own yacht, you’re able to navigate to destinations that traditional cruise ships literally can’t. (think: hidden beaches, secluded coves, and remote reefs) You’re in charge of the pace, the destinations, and the schedule. Just keep in mind that the accommodations on a yacht can be smaller, with quarters closer, so be sure to invite people you don’t mind being close with.
Crewed yacht charters present a veritable cornucopia of vacationing options: sailing, fishing, family vacations, water sporting, honeymoon and romantic getaways, eco-tours, corporate events, scuba diving as well as gay and nude sailing. When booking, it’s advisable to be clear in communicating your goals for the vacation so that the right package can be arranged.
Packages, yacht size, and quality of service can vary, so it’s worth spending some time to investigate.
