    The Frontline - Aleppo, Syria

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Taken in mid-March on battle-blasted streets and homes near the ancient Citadel in the Old City of Aleppo in Syria, these extraordinary images by photographer LeeHarper depict fighters from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) battling government forces on the front line of the country's increasingly bitter civil war. "The fighters seemed very confident, not nervous, and the ones I spoke to would be proud to be martyred for the revolution and the fall of [President Bashar al-Assad]," he says. The fighters were mainly Syrian, and he said the men were not as well coordinated as veterans from other countries now operating in the country, such as Libyans. You can see other images from Syria in another gallery by Harper here.

This set is a selection of images taken around the front lines in Aleppo, Syria. The situation is very tragic, due to much destruction of people's homes and history of the City. Most civilians have now left theses area's due to heavy fighting and constant bombing from Assad regime.
