CNN PRODUCER NOTE 2DSTORMS of Hazleton, Iowa, was on his way through Waterloo when he encountered quarter-size hail yesterday. He says some cars on Highway 63 were damaged by the hail. He also heard that local car dealerships are trying to make the best of the hail damage: 'There were a few car dealerships in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area that will be having 'hail sales' on their vehicles due to some of the damage that they received, from a few $100 to a few $1,000,' he said.

Strong to severe thunderstorm passed thru Waterloo, Iowa, dropping pea, nickel, quarter and larger size hail on the extreme northern section Waterloo, bounded by Conger Street on the south to West Donald Street on the north, all along Hwy 63. Here are some pictures. Hail accumulated from 1" to as much as 3" in spots, especially near Conger and Hwy 63, in Black Hawk County. Hail was still accumulated to 0.5" to 1.0" in that area 1.5 hours after storm passage. As you can see, Hwy 63 saw a few inches of hail accumulation. The pictures of the hail with the coins were taken a half of a block north of West Donald and Hwy 63. I did hear of some car damage near Allen Hospital at Hwy 63 and West Donald Street.
