    Thailand's Coronation Day

     

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Arevaaamy was invited to take pictures of this distinguished event that took place on May 5. She says that it has been officially celebrated since 1950. The Coronation Day, or as it is known in Thai, "Wan Chatramongkhol", is a 'time of celebration and remembrance of our King's contribution to his people and country. It is about also about our identity as his people. The people pay respects, every year, at the heart of the capital city.'

    Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra presided over the Grand Reception on the occasion of the Coronation Day.

    Prime Minister Yingluck on Sunday chaired the Grand Reception in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the auspicious occasion of Coronation Day at Santi Maitri Building in Government House.

    The ceremony was hosted to pay tribute to His Majesty the King for his devotion to the country and hard work for the past 67 years on the reign since his accession to the throne on 9 June 1946.

    Privy Councillors, cabinet members and spouses, former prime ministers, the House Speaker, military top brass, senior government officials, the diplomatic corps and other prominent figures also attended the ceremony.
