Demolition Begins on Seaside Heights Roller Coaster

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter and New Jersey resident crumpf77 captured these images of the iconic Jet Star Rollercoaster in Seaside Heights, which became a symbol of Superstorm Sandy after it was badly damaged during the catastrophe, being torn to the ground. The submerged ride had become a safety hazard, but many residents were sad to see it go. As for recovery in the area, "it's coming along," our iReporter says, "but there is still a lot to do, especially for the homeowners."

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ - May 14, 2013: The Jet Star Roller Coaster, which became one of the defining images of Hurricane Sandy started being dismantled today. A crane began removing the ride piece by piece. The work began Tuesday afternoon after Britain’s Prince Harry finished touring the Jersey shore. The job is expected to take approximately two to three days to complete. Captured by Susan and Clifford Rumpf / ImagineThisDesign.com.
