Vigil Held In NYC For Slain Gay Man

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     coates79, a photographer in New York City, attended a vigil Saturday night at the spot in Greenwich Village where Mark Carson, a gay man, was fatally shot early Saturday. Police called it a hate crime.

'The mood was somber. Also, many people who weren't aware of the murder stopped, joined the vigil, and expressed shock and surprise at the fact that a man was murdered, in Greenwich Village of all places, just for his sexual orientation.'
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

A vigil was held for Mark Carson early this morning in Greenwich Village. Mr. Carson was murdered Friday night after being chased from a restaurant and harassed because of his sexual orientation. This is the fifth hate crime against a member of the LGBTQ community in New York City this month. Mr. Carson's killer was apprehended by police and confessed to the murder during interrogation.
