'It ... was very hard to see'

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Brenton Leete is a stormchaser from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who was out viewing the storm activity with Allen Wright and Andy Wallace. Leete says he belongs to a chasing group called Triple Vortex.

These images were shot around Newcastle, Oklahoma, according to Leete. He says the storm was fast-developing and he at times felt like it was 'trying to take the iPhone out of my hand,' so he had to hold on to the phone while taking pictures. But he also adds that the storm was moving eastward and he was south of the area, so he didn't feel that he was in danger, except for the possibility of debris coming over to where he was. He says the area around Moore was blocked off, so he stayed away from there.

Leete says he's been a stormchaser since he was a kid, but especially for the past five years. The power of the storm made an impression on him, and he says he is thankful his home was mostly unaffected.

'I live in Tulsa, so we didn't sustain any damage,' he says, 'but we smelled a strong gas smell and saw a lot of power flashes from power lines. The debris ball from this tornado was so immense that it made it nearly impossible to see the tornado when it hit Moore. It became rain-wrapped in Moore and was very hard to see.'

Take note: Severe weather conditions can be unpredictable and sometimes dangerous; please stay safe and don't expose yourself to a risky or potentially hazardous situation. Be sure to follow the directions of local authorities.
