Debate night in America |
The future vs. The past
There is an old saying that 'insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different end result'. As I watched John McCain give basically the same answers that George Bush gave in 2000 and 2004 about change, I realized that he would only extend the Bush agenda into the next four years. As I listened to him extol the virtues of his record, I realized that he has been in Congress for 26 years and has voted against all the things he says he is now for. Since the Republicans have been in control of Congress for 12 of the past 14 years, and the Administration for the past 8 years, I realized that John McCain will be more of the same. It would be insanity for me to vote for him and expect a different result.
On the other hand, Barack Obama actually is proposing the kinds of change that he brought to the Illinois legislature and the Senate, like ethics reform, stricter regulation on industry, and an intellectual approach to problem solving.
Obama was the clear winner!
