4-Alarm Fire Next to Senior Apts + Chevron, Burbank CA Memorial Day

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     sljones2002 is a political science professor at Columbia College in South Carolina and an avid photographer. She was visiting her mother in Burbank, California, on Monday, when a four-alarm fire broke out in a nearby carpet and flooring company. These photos were taken from her mother's balcony on the 4th floor. She said it was unusual to be able to see firefighters in action from this vantage point. 'Usually we see them from street level. This was better than a helicopter!'

Fire Stations Responding: Burbank, Pasadena, S Pasadena and Glendale. May 27, 2013: At 10 am this morning I was down in the lobby woking in the computer room off the lobby of my mother's senior apartments. I heard a great deal of fire trucks but didn't know it (the fire) was right next to us till my mother phoned. She was scared. She could see all the flames rising up over the roof of the local carpet and upholstery building right next to us. We are on the 4th floor on that corner where the fire started.

Luckily, the firemen arrived to turn off our (the building's) fire alarms and told everyone to stay indoors. They were working very hard to contain the fire. Next to a Chevron and in front of a 4 story, block long, senior living complex: what a nightmare. Eventually, after about 4 hours it was under control. The roof collapsed and adjoining buildings damaged, but all was okay for the residents of this complex. It was quite a Memorial Day!!!
