A Student Teacher's Response to "Wacky Day" at an elementary school

    To whom it may concern,

I am a Student Teacher at an elementary school in Texas that I will not disclose of. The elementary school that I am at is in an area where the children need the most opportunities to "be wacky," as the superintendent from Wisconsin who appeared on CNN today stated that his students were being allowed to do. Therefore, I am ALL FOR the ability to let students (especially those who have less opportunities due to social economic status & home environments) to "let loose" occasionally at school & enjoy a good time! (Especially elementary school children!) However, I do NOT think that the actions taken by this particular district, superintendent, or elementary school were in favor to the students. In fact, I think it is APALLING that they could say that it was "just to have fun!" First, children have enough distraction today as to how they are supposed to act (especially in lower economic status neighborhoods), & they do not need even more confusion! Also, I agree with the Christian radio speaker about how the children were created as the genders they were created as. While I do agree that it is perfectly normal & okay for little boys to play with dolls & little girls to play with G.I. Joes, I do not think that it is okay for them to be confused at the hands of their administrators & those that they look up to. There ARE indeed OTHER ways to be wacky, as the superintendent stated. Many other ways.
