    Wedding in Midst of Teargas

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Floridian iReporter and doctor FJhaveri is vacationing in Istanbul, Turkey. While spending time in his Istanbul apartment on June 16, he saw a wedding procession make their way through the protests that are happening outside. He believes the wedding procession may have been disrupted by the protesting and police because tear gas was thrown into his apartment window several times, and his apartment is just a block away from where the wedding was taking place. 'We saw the wedding procession come out of the event hall and walk down the street, right in front of our window in our street level apartment that we are renting for our stay,' he explained. He says the protests have been relatively big today. 'It is unprecedented for the protests to come so far from Taksim Square almost to the Galata Towers,' he said, that is where he and his family are staying during their trip.

We are tourists visiting Istanbul from Orlando and found ourselves in the midst of protests from our rental apartment. We stayed inside the apartment, but the teargas canisters blasted into an upper floor apartment in our building. The police also shot teargas right outside our window after a wedding procession passed through to the cheers of the protesters.

Note: The police are shooting teargas in a very nice upscale neighborhood near the Galata Tower in the heart of the old city.

Milk used to spray in eyes and friendly neighbors helping with buckets of water outside.
