    Arpoador, Rio de Janeiro

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     magagirao took this photo while visiting Rio de Janeiro in May of 2012. The image shows swimmers enjoying Arpoador beach, which is nestled between its more famous neghbors Copacabana and Ipanema.

magagirao, who is a designer from Lisbon, Portugal, was on a solo trip thorugh South America, and Rio de Janeiro was one of the cities she liked the most. She said:" I rented a room in the Botafogo neighborhood, and the view outside my window was Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain). I always woke up sweet. My second day in Rio I went to Arpoador beach, and I really love this picture. We can see the mountains, the city buildings and the sea. I often visited Arpoador beach, and these men were there almost every morning. They were always on the rocks sunbathing after swimming."

Leaving Rio de Janeiro without knowing the Arpoador beach is almost a sin. Between Copacabana and Ipanema, this beach is mostly known for being one of the best surfing spots in Rio de Janeiro.
It was also here that I saw how elders look so young. Short, tall, think, fat, white, black, they all have that healthy and good life look. Is it a Cristo Redentor age miracle?
The rocks at Arpoador have trails that are great for walking and to see sunrise and the best sunset in the city. People used to clap during sunset. It’s wonderful. Go to Rio de Janeiro and lived this powerful nature show.
