After completing a previous internship at Viacom, I landed my dream internship at MTV News. It was without a doubt the coolest experience that I have ever had, and I can honestly say that I enjoyed every single minute that I spent interning there. What was so great about this internship was that I would never know that I was in for when I stepped out of the elevators that day. As an in intern you are constantly building and refining your skill set. I was given that opportunity when I contributed articles to RapFix. This is a site that is focused on celebrities, more specifically rappers and singers. As a news intern my skill set grew the most when I was thrown into situations where I did not know exactly what I was doing, but by the end it becomes almost like second nature. Not only did I become a stronger writer, but I now know how to set up for an interview, including setting up the cameras, lighting and sound. Everyone on the news floor is very trusting of the interns and gives us plenty of responsibilities. Whenever I would ask to sit in on an interview, or help in any way, they were always very receptive and would allow me to help. This internship was so valuable to me because I gained hands on experience and because I learned that I really do love the entertainment field, and that is the point of an internship, to see if you would potentially like to pursue a career in a given field.
Being an intern gave me an inside look into what my future would be like if I were to work at Viacom, and I loved the way my future looked.
