Preview of the New Fiji Airways - Flying Tomorrow

Tomorrow, June 27, 2013, the national airline of Fiji will be revealing their extreme makeover, as Air Pacific officially becomes Fiji Airways. In May 2013, a special voyage delivered the second new Fiji Airways Airbus A330 aircraft to Nadi International Airport, with just 30 guests aboard the 293-seat plane. The first new aircraft was delivered in March 2013, and a third will be delivered later this year.

The May flight included a special fly-over upon arrival (as low as 900 feet over the islands) and a welcoming ceremony in the new hangar with more than 200 locals in attendance, including Fiji Prime Minister J.V. Bainimarama. The reception featured a traditional kava ceremony, dancing, singing, speeches, blessings, and happy tears from locals.

The rebranding of the national airline brings Fijians a sense of tremendous pride for their small country made up of 333 islands. Service and schedule enhancements will continue throughout 2013, and mark the culmination of a successful turnaround campaign that began in 2010, at a time when many airlines are experiencing record losses.

Fiji Airways' new A330s are adorned with the new tribal-inspired logo and plane art, designed by celebrated local Masi artist Makereta Matemosi.

Fiji Airways will expand to six flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Nadi in July, and daily flights by November. The remaining Air Pacific fleet of 747 aircraft will be retired by the end of the year.
