    I love my Corvette

    Living a dream

I fulfilled a dream I had when I was 22 years old, I bought a Corvette! It was a 1966 Nassau blue roadster with a white top and a 390 horse 427 engine with a close ratio 4 speed manual transmission. The only “power” thing on it was the power radio antenna for the am/fm radio. No power steering, brakes, seats or windows - also no air conditioning. A man’s car. What a crazy thing for a 22 year old to do as he just started graduate school, and was making close to zip!

As it turns out, crazy sometimes later can appear to be smart. I bought that new Corvette in Maryville, Tennessee, near Knoxville in November 1965. This spring I turned 70 years old and I still have the car. It looks and runs the same, I look and run a lot different! The photo attached was taken recently.

I will be driving the car from San Diego to Monterey, California for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca in August. As this is the 60th anniversary for Corvette, it is the featured marque. There will a lot of them there. I wonder how many Corvettes from 1966 and earlier that are one owner cars.
