    Carcassonne celebrates Bastille Day

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     castelm snapped this pic of fireworks over Carcassonne Castle in France on July 14, 2012.
    - jccarp, CNN iReport producer

In southern France, the city of Carcassonne celebrates 14 July with fireworks. This celebrates the storming of the Bastille in Paris on this day in 1879, an event which triggered the French Revolution. The city's 11th Century castle was built by the Cathars, a Christian sect seeking protection from the Pope's armies. More recently it doubled for Nottingham in Kevin Costner's "Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves".
