For bodybuilding, simple carbohydrates are only to be eaten right before or right after your workout and not any other time. Simple carbohydrates are foods that consist of sugars. These sugars help give your body quick energy right before your workout and help transport the protein to the damaged muscle right after a workout.
For the rest of the day, you should be consuming complex carbohydrates. These types of carbohydrates also give you energy but, for a longer period of time. They will not raise your insulin level like simple carbohydrates do. Therefore, you will not be storing your energy as stored fat when you take these slow digesting carbohydrates.
