Looking at something from above changes the way you perceive it. All camera angles manipulate the viewer's perceptions, and an image captured from the top can reveal surprising patterns and diminish an imposing subject into its environment.

With that in mind, we're challenging you to practice taking a different perspective on your world by shooting a picture from above. Find an observation deck, take an elevator to the top floor or even head up to the second story of your home. From there, take one or more bird's-eye-view photographs showing the view from above on March 12, 13 or 14.

Send us your photos and tell us where you were, the day and time you took the image, your elevation, and what objects or points of interest are below. Share any thoughts on the conditions you faced and the effect of taking a picture from above versus at ground level. Please be safe wherever you choose to go, and don't cross established boundaries.

Some tips to get you started:

-  Try different angles to see what works best.
-  Use a tripod or steady your camera on a ledge in low-light situations.
-  Aim downward vs. straight at the horizon.
-  Consider pollution, fog and sunlight conditions.

-  Take the picture this weekend.
-  Safety is paramount. Have steady footing.
