(CNN) -- Thousands of people living along the Mississippi River have been displaced by flooding, and officials say it will be weeks before the river falls low enough for evacuees to safely return.
The flood has so far affected nine states: Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
