Ready to catch a shooting star this summer?
One of the best opportunities for sky watching and time-lapse photography is right around the corner. The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks August 12-13 above North American skies, and forecasters are expecting a lively show - about 80 meteors per hour during peak display!
The Perseids appear to come from the constellation Perseus, but are actually bits of debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet, which has been orbiting the sun for centuries. The Earth passes through these streams of shooting stars every August.
So make those viewing party plans and don't forget your cameras. We hope you’ll share your stunning images of the Perseid meteor shower by uploading them right here to CNN iReport.
