CNN30: O.J. Simpson trial

The nation was captivated as former American football star O.J. Simpson led police in a slow-speed chase in a white Ford Bronco and was ultimately charged with the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in June 1994. His 1995 criminal trial was billed as the “trial of the century,” broadcast gavel-to-gavel on television, and sparked debates about race, celebrity and fairness in the justice system. He was cleared of the murders, but in 1997, a civil court found Simpson liable for the deaths and ordered him to pay $38 million to the Goldman family and $24 million to the Brown family.
