The music icon known as the "King of Pop" died unexpectedly June 25, 2009 after collapsing in his Los Angeles, California, home at the age of 50, triggering an outpouring of worldwide grief. Jackson, the seventh of nine children from a well-known musical family, had many No. 1 hits including "Thriller," the best-selling album of all time. But by the 1990s, the relentless attention Jackson was getting began to focus as much on his eccentricities as his music. Jackson found himself plastered across the headlines for his short-lived marriages, multiple plastic surgeries and accusations that he sexually molested young boys at his Neverland estate. He was acquitted of child molestation charges after a well-publicized trial in Santa Maria, California, in March 2006.
