Pension strikes in France

The French Senate Friday defied tens of thousands of protesters and approved its version of a controversial pension reform measure, bringing the package one step closer to implementation.

 

More than a million people have turned out in France to protest against a government proposal to raise the national retirement age from 60 to 62. Unions put the figure at 3.5 million nationwide as the rolling strike goes on for more than a week now.
