Did you know that cancer has existed for 4000 years? Yet few have captured its history-until now. Emperor of all Maladies: A Biography of Cancer is a newly released account of the disease by Columbia University Medical Center Oncologist Siddhartha Mukherjee. As a medical student, Dr. Mukherjee began to think of cancer as a character. "I wanted to know what was its birth, what is its mind, its personality, its psyche?" he recently told the New York Times.


His conclusion: Cancer is volcanic and moody, Mukherjee said. Yet humans are progressing against it more and more every day.
