Protesters in Romania took to the streets on January 12, asking for an early election and the ousting of Romanian President Traian Basescu. The protests erupted after the resignation of Deputy Health Minister Raed Arafat, an opponent of health care reforms proposed by the government.
Hundreds have gathered in cities across Romania to demonstrate against the government’s austerity programs and poor living standards, and some of the protests have erupted in violence and clashes with the police.
