iREPORTERS SIGNED UP
Created August 21, 2012 by
Pressure has mounted on U.S. Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin to quit following his controversial comments about "legitimate rape" and opposing abortion in rape cases.
Akin later apologized and cancelled an appearance on CNN following the controversy, which has refocused the political agenda onto women's rights and the issue of abortion ahead of the forthcoming presidential election.
If you are a survivor of sexual assault, we want to hear from you: What do you think about Akin's comments? Why do you think issues around women's rights and abortion prove so contentious in politics, both in the U.S. and abroad? What have been your own personal experiences of these issues - and would you like to share them with us?
We'd also like to hear people's thoughts and opinions in general on what the controversy means for US politics, women's rights and the issue of abortion.
This assignment is now closed. Many thanks to all those who sent in their testimonies, some of which were used in this written piece: Surviving rape: iReporters speak out.
