The U.S. Senate and House have voted in favour of a deal to halt the effects of the infamous fiscal cliff, a $7 trillion combo of tax increases and spending cuts that start to take effect January 1.
The December 31 deadline had passed for Congress and President Obama to reach agreement, however, the Senate and House approved a deal on New Year's Day to stave off the effects of the fiscal cliff.
