Protests over government rule in Egypt have wracked the country in recent months, as anti-government demonstrators have clashed repeatedly in major cities with security forces and government forces.
The protests are the latest in the struggle between Egypt's first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsy, and dissidents who say his leadership is a throwback to past dictatorships, particularly the reign of President Hosni Mubarak, toppled two years ago in the popular revolt.
